Buck N Horse Hollow

July 2010

Happy Summer!
Oh my gosh! We had a busy spring!.
4 great clinics - that makes 24 total now
A saddle fitting with Jochen Schleese
A fun schooling show/clinic at Twin Brooks

The 4 great clinics we had included a new Kindergarten Level for retraining the older horse or starting
the youngster. All the work we did was stress free and on the ground, Level 1 and Level 2
and a new Level 3. At Level 3 riders focused on improving and polishing up their performance horses.
We had a great variety of horses and disciplines at the clinics this year. Thank you very much to all that
attended.

Fall Clinic Schedule
Kindergarten August 21, 2010
Level 1 September 11, 2010
Level 2 October 2, 2010
Level 3 October 16, 2010

Terry Peiper Horsemanship
Not Really
With all the different types of training methods and disciplines out there, it can get very confusing. I
like to stick with the time tested classical basic horsemanship. Nothing new here, it’s all been
around for hundreds of thousands of years. No magic ropes or special bits just the basics. A
horse is a prey animal with strong survival and herd instincts. I believe to be good horsemen we
need to learn their instincts and their language.

I have been riding since I could get someone to put me on a horse. I have shown at all different
types of horse shows for 42 years, worked with a variety of horse trainers, trained a lot of different
horses, worked with students and their horses of all disciplines, read lots of books, watched DVD’s,
listened at Expos, listened to TV and radio shows, attended seminars, conferences and conventions
and the list goes on and on. These experiences have and continue to develop my system for training
horses and riders.

George Morris said “the principles of classical horsemanship can never be violated” That’s the
system or program we try to follow here.

Saddle Fitting with Jochen Schleese - August 1, 2010
Back again by popular demand. The testimonials and success stories at our fittings alone are
overwhelming and a true testimony to his great work. I highly recommend coming and listening to
his free lecture if you ever plan to put a saddle on a horse. Riders need to pre-register with Schleese
ASAP for a saddle fitting. Please bring a chair and snack to share.

Horse for Sale
I often get phone calls and emails from people that want to sell their horse. I would be happy to place
an ad on my bulletin board in the indoor for everyone to see if you the owner of the horse makes it up.
I will not recommend a horse or try to sell a horse that I have not worked with personally.

And for heaven’s sakes if you want to sell a horse, get a good picture! You know what I think when I
see a picture of a horse just standing there? “I guess you can’t ride it” And if I see a picture of a horse
eating grass, I think “I guess you can’t catch it”

Horse selling tips
Type an ad up including age, height, breed, riding experience and price
Advertise online and in local magazines
Take your copies of your ad to local stables, feed stores and tack shops
Have a kid ride the horse if possible
Be honest, no one wins when a horse is misrepresented especially the horse

Clinic Pictures
There are some pictures of each of our riders with their horses on the website from the spring clinics.

Colleen also made individual picture CD’s for each rider. Thanks again Colleen! DVD’s are also in
the works.

Stolen from Joanne Friedman, author of Horses in the Yard…
Another rule, strictly for the sanity of OTD (older then dirt) riders with husbands: "You shall not attempt
to teach your husband to ride. You may have taken lessons for years, been in shows, evented, ridden
thousands of trail miles but in his opinion, you know nothing. You will keep your mouth shut with the
exception of (a) making sounds of sympathy; (b) praying; or (c) calling 911, when he falls off because
of directly doing the opposite of something you tried to teach him."

Too Young to Jump
Dorothy asked me how old a horse should be before we start jumping. Here’s your answer Dorothy,
and a whole lot more:

Congratulations Heidi & Tommy!
Congratulations to Heidi & Tommy Barker. They built a barn, put up a fence and brought their 2
horses home from a boarding stable last month. I hope Tommy doesn't get too jealous of how
Heidi looks at those horses with all that love in her eyes. We probably don't have to tell him to see
his wife he'll have to go to the barn.

As always, I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to work with you and your horse.
